The surviviors of the earthquake from Haiti
Natenael, a haitian boy of 15 lost all his family and now lives in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, his shack just behind the gas station. He went to school for 5 years and can even write his name. You can see his only home on the picture. He works as a shoe polish, earning 15 RD$ per job. Some generous clients give him 20. The other picture shows him with all the tools he needs for the job. He cooks his food behind the shack. To eat, he buys rice (RD$ 30 a pound), eggs (RD$ 5 each), cooking bananas (RD$ 4 each).
Asked what he needs most he replies: a birth certificate. Then I could buy a house.
Many tourists see those shoe cleaners in the D.R. Be generous with them.
